SYNOPSIS
Avril (8) is a girl who lives in the mountains and helps her mother deliver bread to the neighboring villages, all while feeling like the subject of strange stares due to her father’s absence.
An absence she doesn’t fully understand until one day, she discovers her father’s suicide note. Though she doesn’t know what it means, she realizes he won’t be coming back and withdraws into a silence that only breaks when Emilio—a man with gills who speaks like a local rancher—accompanies her on an emotional journey surrounded by his cows and his mastiff.
Thanks to the company of Emilio, whom she sees as a reincarnation of the mythological fish-man, Avril confronts death for the first time and what it means. After discovering that Emilio will not actually be with her forever, she must grapple with the pain and emptiness in order to understand and begin the grieving process for her father.
